Principal Message

Picture of Michael Hunt

Good morning, Horn Families,

It is with immense gratitude and excitement that I write to you as the new Principal of Horn Elementary. Serving this incredible community is both an honor and a full-circle moment for me. Over the last eight years, I’ve had the privilege of growing alongside this campus—first as a 5th-grade teacher, then as a Teacher Specialist, an Assistant Principal, and now, as Principal. Horn isn’t just where I work, it’s where I’ve grown. I’m forever grateful for how this community has shaped both my career and the person I am today.

To our returning families: welcome back! And to those who are new to Horn: we’re so happy you’re here. This is a vibrant, caring, and engaged community, and I’m thrilled to partner with each of you in the year ahead.

As we begin this new chapter, I would like to share our vision for the school year that is deeply aligned with Houston ISD’s priorities. At Horn, we are focused on:
 • Engaging, high-quality instruction that supports every learner
 • Data-driven decision-making to ensure meaningful academic growth
 • Strong relationships and community partnerships that uplift every student
 • Equity, inclusion, and opportunity at the heart of all we do

At the core of everything I do is a deep love for our school and the people who make it special. I believe in the power of strong relationships built on trust and transparency. Every child who walks through our doors deserves to be seen, valued, and celebrated. Our commitment to their success is unwavering, and I’m dedicated to ensuring that happens every single day.

This year, we’re continuing our focus on high-quality instruction with the introduction of Gold Standard Project-Based Learning (PBL) across K–5. Through PBL, students don’t just learn—they explore, create, and connect their learning to the real world. It deepens engagement, sharpens critical thinking, and inspires meaningful growth.

My leadership style is grounded in approachability and openness. I have an open-door policy—not just in name, but in practice. Whether you have a question, a concern, or want to share a story about your child, I welcome the opportunity to connect and collaborate.

With that spirit of collaboration in mind, I’m excited to officially welcome Nicole McAdams to our administrative team as our new Teacher Specialist! Mrs. McAdams, a dedicated teacher at Horn for 16 years, brings a wealth of experience and passion to this new role. Her deep knowledge of the Horn community and her commitment to excellence make her an incredible addition to our leadership team.

I’m also grateful to continue partnering with Heather Mitcham, who returns as our dedicated Assistant Principal. Her unwavering commitment to student success makes her a vital and invaluable part of our team.

And please join me in celebrating Ms. Vanessa Flores, who has been promoted to a new leadership role within the district. Her legacy of excellence, care, and vision will continue to resonate throughout our school, and we are so proud of all she has accomplished. We know she will continue to have a profound impact on students’ lives in powerful ways.

We know that families are essential partners in every child’s success. Your involvement—through PTO, volunteering, school events, or even a quick hello at morning drop-off—makes a world of difference. I look forward to many opportunities to connect, including our first family event: Popsicles with the Principal, scheduled for Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 3:00 PM on the blacktop behind the school. This will be a fun and informal way to meet me, connect with other families, and learn more about the heart of our Horn community.

This year, we’re pushing the gas—not tapping the brakes. We’re leading with purpose and a bold vision for what’s possible—together. I can’t wait to see all we’ll accomplish as we SOAR to new heights.

With appreciation and excitement,
Mr. Hunt
