What school supplies do I need to buy?

Good news! You don’t have to run from store to store in search of that three-ring binder with pockets. Horn PTO has organized the purchase for you---Early Bird Market will open online on August 19^th and will remain open until early September. If you hadn’t preordered the supplies through 1^st Day prior to July 1^st, you will be able to pay for the supplies during “EBM”! All supplies will be delivered to your child’s classroom in time for the first day of school. Easy peasy!

What are the school hours?

School hours are 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM. School doors will open at 7:20 a.m. All students will go directly to their classrooms. If a student would like breakfast, they will pick it up on the way to their classroom. Staff will be positioned around the building directing and monitoring students. Homeroom teachers will be ready to welcome their students beginning at 7:20 a.m. Dismissal begins at 2:50 p.m.

How do I find out who is my child's teacher

Breakfast and Lunch Information

HISD offers free breaksfast to all students from 7:20 to 7:30. Students can grab their breakfast on thier way to their class. A breakfast card, which will be provided to students to be hanged on their backpacks, will be scanned when breakfast is requested by the student.

Lunch is served in the cafeteria, and has a pre-determined cost. Parents can apply for free or reduced price lunch through the School Cafe app. your child's teacher will provide you with lunch time and other information.

How do I handle morning drop-off?

Horn Elementary is a closed campus which means parents are not permitted past the front desk at drop-off each morning. There are 2 main entrances for students in the mornings. If you are walking/scooter/biking to school, you will enter at the gates along Ave. B in between Holly and Pine. If you are dropping via car, the carpool lane entrance is along Pine Street. What do I do if my child is tardy?

Although the side doors close at 7:35, the tardy bell won't ring until at 7:40am. If your child arrives after 7:35, they may enter the school through the front office without being tardy. At 7:40, when the tardy bell rings, students will be given tardy slip. This slip should be given to your child’s teacher as he/she enters his/her classroom.

Remember that classes begin at 7:30 am, and side doors will close at 7:35 a.m. sharp!

When and where is after-school pick-up?

You have options for after-school pick-up:

Your child can be a “walk-up or walker” to Avenue B. Parents need a Dismissal Form that clearly states the student’s last name, first name, and grade-level.
Your child can walk (or ride his bike) by themselves. A permission form must be filled out and submitted to the office for the student to be able to go home by themselves.
Your child can use the carpool driveway that runs along the east side of the school (adjacent to the teaching parking lot) if you are driving to pick-up. Parents need a Dismissal Form that clearly states the student’s last name, first name, and grade-level.
Your child can ride a daycare bus (inclugin HISD) or go to after school care on campus.

Your teacher will be in contact with you regarding your pick-up preference through a welcome email. Maps are located on the Horn School and Horn PTO websites. See the dismissal flow map below.

All early pick-ups before dismissal must occur before 2:15 p.m.
